A one-minute video with cherry tomatoes, pasta and feta cheese and the Internet went wild! The success of a culinary video saturated the app’s servers and caused a stockout of feta cheese.
The trend (which dates back to 2019) comes from a Finnish food blogger Jenni Häyrinen who posted a recipe for tomatoes and oven-roasted feta cheese on her Instagram account. Only a few hours after the recipe was posted, hundreds of Finnish internet users had fun reproducing the preparation in their feed and in their stories. The media got hold of the story and it was an immediate success, so much so that supermarkets ran out of feta cheese.
The original video has been seen nearly 2.7 million times… for a population of 5.5 million people in Finland. Since then, February 4th is considered the official day of feta pasta in Finland: Uunifetapasta Day.
Almost two years after the original recipe was released, the recipe is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, outside of Finland, after several accounts replicated the famous recipe on TikTok. Like the first time, in 2019, the videos are going viral, the views are skyrocketing, while Internet users are having fun reproducing it on their respective accounts!
